Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door Fandom

hooty owl house

Most who visit the Owl House in the series are very disturbed by his strange appearance and "annoying voice". Hooty, for the most part, does not play directly into the plot of the series, though he has had a significant amount of moments where he aids the heroes in one way or another. Some of his more notable entries are when Luz, Willow and Gus all decided to hold a moon conjuring inside of him and accidentally uprooted him from the ground; revealing that he does possess a pair of bird legs underneath. He mostly puts himself out there to annoy or intrude on other people's privacy and loves to annoy those that his residents have had some quarrel with such as Lilith and Amity, though in the latter's case it did not end well for him. He was also there to comfort Luz after Eda succumbed to her curse and was taken by the Emperor's Coven. Hooty has not interacted much with Luz ever since she began living at the Owl House, although their relationship is shown to be marginally better than that shared with either Eda or King.

Powers and abilities

In "Adventures in the Elements", King refused to let him into his boot camp, causing Hooty to play "hard to get" when King comes to him for help later. Because of his station in life, being bound to the house, most of his activities and hobbies involve talking, telling riddles, listening to music, and rolling around in the mud. Luz then tells Amity that even though her life is hectic right now, and she doesn't know what will happen next, she wants Amity to be part of her future. Luz then builds up the courage to say the next thing, but Amity gets too excited and high-strung and hurriedly, though inadvertently, asks her out first. Luz is slightly disappointed and embarrassed that she built up the courage for nothing, prompting Amity to quickly apologize and allow her to speak awkwardly.

Preparing for the Day of Unity

He decides that everyone in the Owl House will be better off without him and tries to leave, going so far as to rip himself out of the door in an attempt to get away from the house, all while crying hysterically. It is only until Eda and King convince him that he did end up helping them and seeing Luz and Amity hold hands together that he finally calms down and cries happily, knowing that he did help everyone. However, the two girls end up holding each other and blushing, fall down a trapdoor and end up in front of a Tunnel of Love set up by Hooty. There, they find a swan Hooty boat waiting for them, picking them both up using its neck and putting them inside its seat. The boat then cruises down the river and into the tunnel, with romantic music playing and various animatronics and cardboard cutouts filled with love messages alongside the river. Luz is embarrassed and worried that Amity would find this a lame way to confess her feelings.

Trip to the Titan Trapper Island

In Understanding Willow, Gus Porter did seem to find him more interesting than either Eda or King, but quickly became victim to Hooty's eccentric ramblings while interviewing him. Nevertheless, Eda mentioned in Agony of a Witch that while Hooty can be annoying sometimes, he still has a place in her heart. In the same episode, Eda reminded Luz to feed Hooty before turning into the owl beast, suggesting that she secretly cares about Hooty. He hears Luz talking to the echo mouse, asking it if it can help her ask out a certain "cotton-candy-haired goddess" if it's not going to tell her more about Philip Wittebane. Realizing that she is torn between finding a way home and pursuing love, Hooty concludes that she cannot make any progress if her attention is split, so he tries to help Luz open up to Amity by setting the two of them up on a date.

Luz then apologizes to Amity for this, saying that it was Hooty's stupid idea, but Amity despondently replies that she is leaving, saying that the idea of them dating was stupid. He starts crying hysterically and desperately tries to leave the Owl House, putting it at danger of collapsing. At the end of the episode, Luz ends up confessing her feelings to Amity and asks her out, which Amity excitedly accepts. In "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", he cries and pulls himself away every time when he thinks he failed to help King, Eda, and Luz with any of their problems.

Lilith is apparently the first person to openly insult him for his flaws, as he was deeply hurt upon hearing it. Nevertheless, he defends her from the fire bees, which results in her coming to respect the house demon. He begins calling her Lulu for short while she in turn nicknames him "Hootcifer" (a play on Lucifer). Due to Hooty being practically omnipresent all the time, he mostly finds himself interacting with Eda, King and Luz (and later Lilith) every waking hour of the day. Hooty does not seem to realize that everyone is put off by his behavior as no one has the gumption to tell him this. He seems to view Eda as an almost maternal like figure as she is usually the one that initiates the need to care for him.

However, during the scuffle King knocks Tarak's disguise off, with the other Trappers unmasking themselves and showing their true colours. Bill arrives and excitedly declares that he will receive most of the glory once they sacrifice King, confusing the Trappers as they were promised equal rewards when the Huntsman was released. Hooty and Luz quickly question Bill's honesty, but he quickly brushes it off as the duo lying and the Trappers continue pursuit. Luz, Hooty and King reach the portal, sending them back to the island, where King destroys the finger with his yell and Hooty protects them from the debris. With this adventure concluded, King is shaken and asks to go home, which Luz and Hooty agree to. During the events of "Hooty's Moving Hassle", Luz and her friends Gus and Willow hold a moonlight conjuring in an attempt to one-up Amity, aiming to animate a small action figure.

However, Luz ends of destroying the ride believing Amity is too cool for this, but indirectly hurting Amity's feelings believing she's not into her. Hooty tries to leave and believes he screw up, but King and Eda tell him that he actually helps them, King can unleash a sonic scream and Eda and can turn into a harpy woman thanks to the Owl beast. Hooty resembles the head of an owl with a small beak, a golden brown crown, a light brown face and dark brown eyes. One of the most volatile relationships so far, Amity has shown nothing but hostility to Hooty since they first met during "Enchanting Grom Fright". For butting in on her conversations and invading her personal space, making her extremely annoyed, she has physically assaulted the enchanted doorknocker, resulting in Hooty having to wear an eye-patch and several bandages on.

Eda Clawthorne

Later on, after Eda, King and Luz return home, the former decides to celebrate with drawing faces on Hooty, causing Lilith to promise him she'll protect him. During "Adventures in the Elements", Hooty offers to join King's 'boot camp' while Eda and Luz are away training, which he refuses. However, after King's animated plushies rebel against him, he's forced to enlist the help of Hooty who, after playing hard-to-get, eventually agrees when King draws him a body and rips the toys to smithereens, horrifying King. Later when the duo return home, they walk in on King congratulating Hooty for his bravery, with the ceremony abruptly stopping due to the mood being ruined.

His overall appearance is similar to a barn owl, as in "Hooty's Moving Hassle", his legs can be seen underneath the house. His anatomy has a peculiar nature, as in "Echoes of the Past" which suggests he is at least partially an organic creature when separating himself from the door reveals veins and organs spilling from the gap. "O Titan, Where Art Thou" later reveals he has several rows of teeth inside his mouth running down to his stomach, along with a second "head" that is obscured at the back of his mouth.

Amity notices a banner saying what Luz feels about her and, though embarrassed, is flattered. Humiliated and worried that she will get made fun of again, Luz desperately destroys everything, unknowingly hurting Amity's feelings and making her think Luz is rejecting her. Still, to her dismay, a heartbroken Amity despondently replies that she will leave, waving around the idea of them dating before dismissing it as stupid.

Whether he actually returns the sentiment is not known, though Eda does care a great deal for the roof over head. Hooty treats Luz and King almost like siblings and will sometimes team up with the latter over various schemes as they share similar wants and needs. He actually gets along well with Luz, though she too can sometimes find him disturbing. In "Agony of a Witch", Hooty was able to recognize that Luz was sad and calmed down for once to comfort her.

Hooty is too upset to notice this, and thinking he has failed to help King, he pulls away in tears, not hearing King calling after him. A while later, King is seen panting while Hooty criticizes him for his offensive dance and failed attempt to spin a cocoon. King pleads with Hooty not to talk about the cocoon, so he obliges and tries to determine if King is a Biped demon. Hooty is surprised by King's lack of magic powers, as even Bug demons have some magic. In a final attempt to determine if King is a Beast-type demon, Hooty has Tiny Nose perform a blood draw on King. Later on during "Agony of a Witch", Lilith arrives with a platoon of Coven Scouts as promised to try and capture Eda.

Hooty manages to free himself from the Owl House and starts dragging along the ground, causing earthquakes. Eda and King try to convince Hooty that he did help them in his weird way, but he is too upset to listen, saying that despite their claims, he has still failed Luz. Eda and King then ask Luz what Hooty tried to do for her, to which she confesses that he was trying to help her ask Amity out. Eda encourages her to do it, but Luz points out that Hooty's breakdown is ruining the moment.

Hooty and the rest of the gang later watch Belos's announcement as he unmasks himself and announces the impending Day of Unity. At the castle, Lilith and Hooty go off exploring the castle and after finding a mural of a King-like figure, realise that if even the best historians never discovered this island, then King really could've been an undocumented King of Demons. While King assures the trio the golems are harmless, one arrives and starts attacking but Eda manages to arrive in the nick of time and hold it off while they escape. Hooty makes a minor appearance in "Lost in Language", offering to share his experiences last night which everyone rejects. He's also mentioned by Eda in "Once Upon a Swap" as she proclaims that whoever manages to prove their life is easiest gets out of house cleaning duties, with Hooty rolling around in mud at that time.
